In the majority of UK homes, the same breaker connects all the rings and the network therefore is able to run across the different mains rings because the Powerline signal can run across the busbar.

If the mains rings are isolated, for example of on different electrical phases of same main feed or different circuit breakers which causes the Powerline network to become segmented, then these different networks can be joined together via a CAT5 cable.

The Powerline standard allows for multiple networks to run across the same mains cables and individual networks can be secured with their own 128 bit AES encryption key.  This network key can be changed to further secure the network or to segment the network.
