The total number of Powerline Sockets within a single network is 8 active units with the bandwidth divided amongst units (i.e. one collision domain like a hub). The best practice is to segment the devices into Powerline networks (each with their own unique Network Password) of no more than 8 units as the bandwidth is shared amongst all the units.

The different segments of the Powerline networks can then be bridged together via CAT5 cables.

Power Ethernet has a whitepaper on the subject of deploying Powerline in more complex networks including multiple electrical phases -- get in touch and we will send you a copy.
